About Us

Motorsport would simply not function without marshals.

Our Aim

"It is our aim to fully equip and train all members to a very high standard, so that they are in a position to provide a high quality of service at events."

Club Profile

The club was formed in August 1997 by a group of individuals, who for sometime had marshalled at rallies throughout Ireland and who all had the same common love of the sport.

Over the years the number of people in this group steadily grew in numbers and it was decided that the best way to further promote the sport and the need for well trained marshals was to form a club. The aim of this club would be to provide the best possible service it could to the motor clubs and other organisations, who run events throughout the country.

Much of the credit for the formation of the club must go to Tommy Hughes, a former UMWA/Vauxhall Marshal of the year.

The club had its official launch in January 1998 when it held an evening in the Market Tarven, Magherafelt to which members of the press, motor clubs and sponsors were invited. On display that evening was equipment and clothing which was either sponsored or purchased from donations received from motor clubs, both north and south, companies and individuals.

Over the next few months the club was granted membership of the MSA, affiliated membership of the Northern Ireland Car Clubs - ANICC and applied for membership of Motorsport Ireland - MSI.

In Febuary 1999 the club changed its name to Lough Neagh Car & Tarmac Rally Marshals Club after being granted a license by the MSA to run its own events.

In January 2000 Chairman and Team Manager Mr. Tommy Hughes retires from the club due to ill health. The club wishes Tommy well and thanks him for all his contribution and efforts in the past in the formation and running of the club.

In July 2000 the club ran its first Lough Neagh Multi-Use Rally, sponsored by The Elk Bar and Restaurant.

In January 2002 the club was sadden by the sudden death of the late Mr. Tommy Hughes. His guidance and leadership will be greatly missed, and the club would like to pass on its deepest sympathy to the family circle.

In July 2002 the club ran its second Lough Neagh Multi-Use Rally, sponsored by The Elk Bar and Restaurant.
